Holaaaaaa….I am back…I lost internet for a little while and well being on the island, we adapt to island time…time is different here, slow and chill. Here’s my following few days:
Day 4. I got out of bed late this day, and by late, I mean late. My head was all out of wack and my body so tight. I made myself a cup of coffee and went outside to work on my rock garden in hopes of loosening up. I had many hammock breaks, lol… I hear someone at the gate and it was the head painter Fabio asking to come in and drop off the ladders. This guy is really nice, and he likes to talk, so I told him I was not feeling good and that I was taking my day slow, so he leaves and comes back with Tylenol and a salad, I was like: huh! Gracias amigo. It was a very sweet unexpected gesture, although he wanted to sit and have lunch with me, so I did even though I was feeling blah. Once he left, I was ready for a nap, and then I look at my phone and D tells me that K is working later than expected and wants me to cover K’s spot at their corn hole tournament, I was like: oh boy, maybe another time, but they needed me, so I took a quick shower, brushed my hair and went. It was a rough start, needless to say, my get up and go, had gone up and left, I was still feeling rough. I had stopped drinking and when I do, I am reminded why I stopped. I met on the sunset cruise a really nice couple from Colorado, Heidi and Fuq, and they were at the spot the tournament was being held, she told me to grab a beer and I would feel better. the thought of it was yucky, but I did have one and slowly started to see the light again.
My first round playing was poor, but after a few pointers by the guys there, I was really proud of myself on the second round. At one point we were neck to neck with the champions…that was super exciting..we had a great time.
We got back home, and had sunset on D and K’s balcony, talked about the game and then I walked home. My night walk is sooooo sooo cool. The palm trees dance with the wind and they seem to cheer on my walk, and wave at me, I love it. I decided to walk over to my dock, and OMG my jaw drops… as I approach the end of the dock , and look at the water, I see the little glowing sparks on the water from the bioluminescence. This is one of those phenomenas that I just can’t put into words. It is like stars on the water, like fireflies swimming, it is one of the most magical things I have ever seen and it is in my dock. WOW WOW WOW! I teared up when I saw it , I laid on the dock gazing at them, talking to them and admiring them. I came to bed with the biggest smile on my face. Day 4 was fun and ended magically.
Day 5. This day was so awesome. I woke up with the feeling of magic lingering from the night before, so I woke up early as the day started to light up and decided to dip in the water. As I head over to the dock I look back and want to say “Good Morning” to the sun, so I sneak over to D and K’s dock to watch it come up over the mountain, there it was, a majestic sun rise over the Roatan mountain. To see the bay, the boats, the trees, the morning come to life, I was left speechless, I sat there for a few minutes in full gratitude. I was profoundly moved. It is the perfect place to welcome this day and set the tone to what will be a great one. I walk back to my dock and do my little stretch routine and then grab my mask, fins and snorkel and go for a swim. I imagine that all the fishies are my friends all saying “Hola” to me and there are so many in the pond… so many colors and so many sizes. They are my new friends and I love them, so much. I come out feeling like a new woman and decide to go do some interior decorating. I went into the big house and rearranged the living room furniture and organized the loft lounge area. It is a really pretty area of the house because it is all fine wood finishings and they were looking a little neglected, after rearranging, a nice dust off, it came out pretty nice, I am proud of it.
Once I got back to my place and cleaned up, I started craving a nice cold fruit smoothie, so I decided to drive the scooter down to town and buy some fruit. I have driven scooters before, but I was advised not to here, and well, I did, and so happy I did…This is my life book, I am the author, and omgoodness, the smile on my face driving the scooter, it was soooo freaking cool. It is a yellow Honda Ruckus, it is a badass scooter. I went down the West End, up and down and stopped by to see my friend Capt. Paul at Sundowners for a cheers to myself. I teared up looking out at the bay with my helmet sitting next to me and toasted in gratitude to God with a Honduran beer in hand. Big smiles during this time. I went by the fruit stand and bought me a papaya, pineapple, bananas, apples and other veggies, enough to fit in my back pack and rode home. It was such an awesome time for me. Upon my arrival my awesome neighbors invite me over for lunch. D is licensed to catch lion fish and a huge one was caught that morning. D made a killer ceviche and we sat outside with what I would call the best lunch view ever, paired with a nice margarita. With a full belly, what else would I do, but grab my book and go lay on my hammock, and wait for sunset. But wait, this day isn’t over, D and K had plans to go to Papa Bones restaurant for some live music and they invited me, so this lucky girl got to go watch some cool island musicians and top the night with some old school rock and roll and island beats, it was awesome! I loved this day, from beginning to end.
Day 6. The bed was extra comfy this morning, it was surely a moment I didn’t want to lose…at about 5:30 in the morning, and when the day is beginning to light up, I decided I would come out to greet the sun, so I picked myself up and walked over with my blankee to D and K’s dock since it has such a perfect sunrise view. I like to stay on the suns schedule now, so it was time to get my day rolling. I got back and made me a yummy granola and banana bowl, got ready to meet the workers for the house. I wish you could see their faces when I met them and I started speaking in Spanish, their eyes got really wide…that makes me smile every time.
As I stand outside showing them around, I see a pod of dolphins slowly swim by the back yard, it was so cool. I wish I had my phone to record it, but oh well, I yelled over at D and K to come see them. It is amazing to me that the back/front yard is this massive pool of life, WOW, like a dream. I then rush to grab my stuff and head over to the dock next door since Todd’s buddy, Capt. Paul , who also has become my buddy, invited me to go on a fishing trip, and teach me the intros of fly fishing. This was super exciting for me, the boat ride, the water, the reef, the mountain, being picked up like 10 feet away from my place and to see the island from a boat is awesome. Boating is such a sweet perspective and going to the far end of the island to fish, makes for a perfect start to the day. Paul is cool, he is half Honduran and half American and he’s a funny dude, we went to lunch at Blue Bahia and I ordered the full fried fish, sooooo good… crunchy on the outside and juicy inside, and then he dropped me off at home…I was beat… it was siesta time. I don’t know what it is, but the sun can wear you out as well as a big belly, so I laid on the couch until the project director for the property came over to go over what is going to be done…I was having a lazy day, but I decided to move a few buckets of rock over on my project and get a little bit done …
That time was starting to roll in, so I grabbed my camera , a glass of wine and headed over to watch sunset with D and K… they like watching sunsets also and we have a cool happy hour gathering on their balcony. K and I went over to the pond and watched the light show, it was awesome. We saw a small fish eat the sparkle and light up as he swam away, like a shooting star in the sky, it was a shooting fish in the water. It is super sweet to go there and I had a really nice time with K. D stayed back making a killer stir fry and we all had din din together. We started watching a show on Netflix and once my eye lids got heavy, I made my way to my little piece of heaven. No one wants to see the passed out Gladys, with a wide open mouth…Day 6 was awesome. Sun, dolphins, fish, boat ride, water, yummy food and great people.
These days have been like a dream. My hair has changed since it gets wet everyday, I don’t wear makeup here, I deal with sandfly bites, and a few bruises here and there due to moving heavy sctuff, and yet it all plays part of this wonderful ride. I miss my family especially my little niece and her pure love, I miss a lot of my people and the easiness of things back home, but I am learning so much about myself, and embracing this experience with all that I am. There are many ups and downs in life, and they all play such a big part of who we are and who we are to become, it is I’m important to choose wisely, choose joy. So when life gives you limes, make some ceviche, right? 🙂
I hope you stayed tuned to the next few days to come and join me during my journey…
A few shots to sum it up: D and K’s sunrise dock shot, my dock and view of the Seacasa, my cheering scooter ride selfie, my rock garden project, my place at night, sunset shots and cute wood monkey. The boat picking me up and my yummy fish for lunch. My picture of the loft lounge, lion fish ceviche lunch with a view and a star in my papaya.
